What is the wardrobe of the elegant Chanel woman for Fall-Winter 2011-2012?

An androgynous wardrobe, a perfect cross between masculine and feminine, imposing a new attitude. The legendary Chanel jacket, beaded and embroidered, fused with a man’s jacket with tuxedo lapels, on a sporty reefer, hybrid and ambiguous, or worn under a tweed or knit cape of contrasting colors. Tops with a trellis effect change the tone, with sparkling and quilted versions. Off-beat over-alls are dressed up with embroidered lace, while masculine pants are worn rolled up, revealing a bare ankle. Tweeds, draped cashmere, organza, muslin, satin and knit resonate in a dark palette of colors: black, anthracite, multiple greys, silver, pine-green, muted red.

Tell us about the handbags and shoes to complement these creations.

Handbags in glazed, weathered calf-skin, seduce with their constructivist clasps in silver or antique-gold metal, their linear quilting, and their graphic top-stitching. With an ambiguous aesthetic and an androgynous connotation, the “Boy Chanel” bag, paves the way for the new look. Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by the “cartouchiére”, a bag originally for hunters, carried by this visionary designer. The design of the “Boy Chanel” bag, affirms the clean lines and integrates the codes of the trademark, discrete and slightly masculine: the chain with large links, rectangular flap, quilted in graphic top-stitched bands. On the side, six letters spell the mythical name CHANEL, written in light relief. At the center of a circle, the double C is discrete. Masculine shoes, accompanied by socks, worn loose, contrast with the fine and gracious pumps with pointed toes in crepe de chine and little elegant heels, between mat and shiny.

Does Chanel have plans for opening any new points of sale this year?

The end of 2011 will be marked by the opening of a boutique at 51 Avenue Montaigne. This 600-square-meter space on two levels will be entirely renovated and redecorated by architect Peter Marino. The boutique will display all of the prêt-a-porter collections, small leather-goods, shoes, glasses and accessories created by Karl Lagerfeld, as well as all of Chanel’s watch collections. This new space will allow Chanel to optimize client services and welcome. The accent will be on the enhancement of products and their accessibility, the fluidity of the sales floor and the comfort of the fitting rooms, which are particularly spacious and luxurious.
